Dear Uptown Village Association,

I am writing this letter in support of the great work the Slo Poks are doing in our Vancouver, both directly for the youth of west Vancouver and the greater Vancouver community as a whole.

For the past 2 years they have hosted their annual Show and Shine and designated the Hough Foundation as a beneficiary of this community event.  Vancouver needs this type of event for families and individuals to enjoy a friendly,  fun and free outing in Uptown Village, Vancouver.  The event also benefits the merchants and businesses as people become more aware of our city and what it has to offer.  Each year the event grows in popularity as people anticipate the Show and Shine!

In 2012 the Slo Poks donated $1,200.00 and in 2013 another donation of $1,700.00.   Along with both checks came very large quantity of school supplies just in time for back to school!  The donations are proceeds from the Show and Shine.  We could not be more appreciative of  the Slo Poks support as partnerships are the hallmark of the Hough Foundation’s success.

The Hough Foundation is a small but sustainable foundation, 21 years old, that focuses on bringing basic needs, resources, summer programs, mentors/tutors, classroom volunteers and after school enrichment programs to Hough Elementary and home schooled children in our boundaries.  This at risk elementary school has 60% free lunch and 18% homeless student population. These kids deserve a level playing field when they come to school to learn.  The generous donations made by the Slo Poks from the Show and Shine make a huge difference by elevating the self-esteem of students as they come to school with backpacks full of school supplies, new shoes and coats ready to learn!

My Best,

Barbara
